'This Charming Man' is a romantic novel by Keyes, which revolves round four different women, who walks in different paths, but relates them to a single person. The story starts with Lola, a hip stylist who has just found out that her boyfriend -- Paddy de Courcy, Ireland's debonair politician with charm looks is getting married to another woman named Alicia.
Disappointed Lola flees off to a tiny village to try and forget him. There she makes some unlikely friendships with a group of cross dressers. She is afraid that she might even be falling for one of them. In the meanwhile, Grace, a journalist tracks down Lola to reveal the secrets about Paddy and their relationship. Lola gets doubt over Grace soon, since she is in greed to collect secrets about Paddy.
As the pages turn out, Lola thinks that Grace wants to have revenge over Paddy, when she comes to know that Paddy had dated Grace's twin sister -- Marnie, when they were young and in high school. Marnie, who is married and the mother of two little girls, is also an alcoholic and her life is slopping down towards the end. The author has kept Marnie as a trump card in this story, letting to know her details only at the third part, which makes the story to take a different turn. Will Paddy be punished? Is there any other personal reason for Grace against Paddy?
